One year at Thanksgiving, when I was around 7 years old, I took the thanks part of Thanksgiving very seriously. I encouraged my older siblings and parents to express their gratitude around the dinner table. I took the opportunity to thank anyone and everyone involved in the creation of the feast before us–including the farmers who grew the vegetables and the rain that fell from the sky to water it. Meanwhile, our food grew cold my family grew impatient.

Thinking of that story today, I got to wondering how often we actually stop to take stock of all the things we could be grateful for? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we need to thank the bees that fertilized the flower to grow the squash on the table, but it probably wouldn’t hurt to stop and express our gratitude a little more often. Or even just stop to appreciate the things in our lives that we’re thankful for. 

This is not a new concept by any means, and I’m probably not the only one writing about it this season, but I’m sharing nonetheless!

Adopt an Attitude of Gratitude with Me

Grateful is defined as “feeling or showing an appreciation of kindness; thankful.” I don’t know about you, but I know I do not show (or even feel) appreciation of kindness often enough. I do not express my gratitude for all of the things in my life that I should. I’ve decided that for the rest of the year, I’m going to adopt an “Attitude of Gratitude”.

I’m going to tap into that 7 year old who was thankful of everything little. Each day on my Instagram story (@loudenclearblog) I am going to share one thing I am thankful for that day. My goal is to make this way of thinking stick. I know some people keep a gratitude journal, but I’m not great at sticking to that kind of thing, so I figure I’ll just put my social media habit to good use instead.
